Laboratory Technician, Product Development
The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for supporting the Product Development Department in making finished samples while simultaneously receiving training to eventually gain their own projects to manage under the guidance of a Manager or Mentor. Laboratory Technicians will gain training in, but not limited to, the following categories – Teas, Juices, Energy Drinks, Shots, Supplement Products, and Hydration Powders. During their training they will learn how to use various analytical methods related to beverage (Brix, TA, pH, Density, Specific Gravity, etc.). Laboratory Technicians are expected to maintain a clean and organized workstation at their desk and lab bench. Must have basic lab experience, weighing and mixing ingredients, and an understanding of lab safety.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform analytical testing such as TA, Brix, pH, Density, Specific Gravity, Flashpoint, Water Activity, and color analysis using a spectrophotometer.
Formulate beverages to specific calorie counts using nutritive and non-nutritive sweeteners.
Develop vitamin/mineral premixes and maintain formulation records (Excel proficiency required).
Understand and implement unitized ingredients in beverage plant formulas for production efficiency.
Learn and apply methods for extending product shelf life and selecting appropriate processing parameters (e.g., pasteurization, preservatives).
Accurately weigh ingredients and maintain good laboratory practices.
Prepare sample labels and lab request sheets for shipping.
Calibrate lab equipment, including Titrino, Refractometer, and pH Meter.
Manage ingredient replenishment and sampling protocols.
Comply with Company Certified programs (HACCP, NSF, SQF, Food Defense, Food Safety).
Ensure back panel labeling compliance and appropriate serving sizes.
Follow correct batch-making sequences.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Chemistry, Food Science, or a related field.
Experience:
One (1) – Two (2) years’ experience in a laboratory setting. Beverage development experience is a plus.
Skills:
Computer proficiency – Microsoft Word and Excel required.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and follow-up skills.
Demonstrate personal initiative, responsibility, and flexibility.
Ability to work under limited supervision and to oversee multiple assignments with limited time constraints.
Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
Strong critical thinking skills.
Strong math skills.
